The decision
Replace, repair or rekey?
The three paths for almost every lock question. Choose one to see when it is the right answer — and when it is not.
Rekey — when it fits
Rekeying rebuilds the lock’s key operation so old keys no longer work. It is often the more economical option when the hardware is in good condition and the concern is who holds a key.
Rekeying changes the key, not the hardware — if the lock itself is worn or low-grade, we will tell you when replacement is the better spend.
- Moving into a new property
- Lost or misplaced keys
- Housemates, tenants or staff changing
- Making several locks share one key

The process
What working with us looks like
No theatre and no mystery — four steps from first contact to a door that works.
You make contact
Call or submit the request form. Tell us the door type, the lock and what is happening — the more detail, the better prepared we arrive.
We assess the actual door
On site (or on the phone for simple questions) we look at the real hardware: how the door sits, what the lock is, what has failed.
You get clear options
Replace, repair or rekey — explained with what each involves, before any work starts. You decide; nothing proceeds unexplained.
Work done, then verified
We carry out the agreed work, demonstrate the result, and make sure the door closes and locks the way it should before we leave.

Hardware, assessed before it is fitted
Inside the job
What we hold ourselves to
Locksmith work has a trust problem: too many operators quote one price at the door and another at the invoice. Our answer is boring on purpose — assess first, explain the options, agree on the work, then do exactly that.
If your lock can be repaired rather than replaced, we will say so. If rekeying achieves what you need for less than new hardware, we will say that too. The work should outlast the conversation about it.
- Assessment before any work starts
- Options explained with trade-offs, not upsells
- No damage where non-destructive entry will do
- Every job demonstrated and verified at completion
Local to Hornsby
Based on Hunter Street, working up the road
Our base is 14 Hunter St, Hornsby — which means the work is genuinely local. Hornsby’s mix of Federation homes, post-war brick houses, newer apartments and the Hornsby Westfield precinct all bring different doors, and different hardware, through our week.
Beyond Hornsby itself we serve surrounding suburbs where we can reach you within operating hours: Waitara, Wahroonga, Asquith, Normanhurst and Berowra, each with its own local page. Call to confirm availability for your street.

Door types
Every door is a different job
Hardware only works when it suits the door it is fitted to. These are the four door families we work with most.
Timber entry doors
Solid stiles accept deadbolts and mortice locks properly. Older timber doors often need alignment or frame attention before new hardware will seat and latch correctly — we check that first.
Security screen doors
Screen doors run their own cylinders and hardware, separate from the main door behind them. Dated screens are often better rekeyed or replaced at the screen level rather than adapted.
Glass-fronted commercial doors
Frameless glass shopfronts use patch fittings and slim lock hardware — a different trade from timber, needing its own care. Common work for Hornsby’s retail strip.
Metal & multi-point doors
Steel-clad and multi-point locking doors carry specialist hardware. We assess what the door actually is before promising any work on it — some hardware is proprietary for good reason.
The system view
A door is a system, not a product
Good security is the cylinder, the strike, the frame and the habits around them working together. We assess the whole entry point, then upgrade only what it can genuinely support.
Layer 01
The cylinder
Where the key does its work — and the part everyday use wears out first. A worn cylinder is felt long before it fails.
Layer 02
The strike & frame
Force applied to a door ends up at the strike. Long fixings into solid frame, not short screws into trim, decide how the entry point behaves.
Layer 03
Alignment
A door that does not latch fully is a door that is not locked — whatever the hardware. Alignment is often the cheapest real improvement.
Layer 04
Keys & habits
Who holds keys, how they travel and what happens when one goes missing. Rekeying answers this layer quickly when it needs answering.
Assessed, not sold — see how upgrades are approached.
The turn
One motion, done right
A key turning smoothly is the whole product. Everything on this site — the assessment, the honest options, the careful fitting — exists so that this one motion keeps working, every day, for years.
When it stops being smooth — stiff, gritty, or needing a wiggle — that is the moment to have it looked at. Early attention is almost always the cheaper path.
A note on reviews
We don’t publish testimonials we can’t verify, so this space is deliberately empty for now. As genuine customer feedback comes in, it will appear here — unedited and attributable.
